Practice-as-research settings
My practice-as-research has involved extensive, in-depth and varied reflective storytelling practice with young people. My aim, to develop and articulate a dialogic and participatory practice of storytelling with adolescents, dictated this. Only a broad practice could help me transcend the specific characteristics of each setting; only long-term practice could lead to a deep engagement with the needs and interests of each group of young people.
In total, between October 2013 and April 2016, I led (or co-led) over 350 hours of storytelling activities with approximately 400 adolescent young people in a broad range of settings - in some cases for only a few sessions, in other cases over a period of up to two years.
Brief, factual narratives of my work in each setting are provided below. Each introduces 'The Setting', gives my 'Starting Point', the 'Developments' that ensued in my work there, and my 'Endings and Learnings', including links to other places in this portfolio where issues in the setting are discussed.
